Math Kangaroo Competition

On March 15th 2012. RSM will host The 15th Annual MATH KANGAROO - one of the greatest international math competitions for children in grades 1-12.

All students are given recognition and gifts for participation. Every year more than 5,000,000 students from over 40 countries participate in the contest. Math Kangaroo is a popular international non-selective competition in mathematics for students in grades 1 through 12. The competition takes the form of a multiple choice test. Each participant is seen as a winner and receives recognition and gifts on the test day in March.  Those who achieve the top results are awarded in May. The atmosphere of appreciation for the students' learning and the fun in each competition room across USA are the reasons why participants return year after year and bring their siblings and friends along. Math Kangaroo helps the students both to develop their skills and to enjoy mathematics even more.

Best of Newton 2010

NEW YORK, NY, May 17, 2010

For the second consecutive year Russian School Of Mathematics was selected for the Best of Newton Award in the After School Programs category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

Nationwide, only 1 in 70 (1.4%) 2009 award recipients qualified as 2010 award winners.

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community. Press release

 RSM Math Club and MOEMS

Our school's math club meets weekly for one hour. Club members explore a topic or strategy in depth, using the text Creative Problem Solving in School Mathematics (or other sources), and practice for the contests using non-routine problems.

The highlights of this program are the five monthly contests, administered from November to March. No traveling is required. These contests provide an incentive for students to intensify their study of math.

RSM Newton has two teams: one for elementary school students (grades 4, 5, 6) and one for middle school students (grades 7,8). Each team is made up of at most 35 students who are sponsored by the school and students who are enrolled in the Math Circle classes.

The members of the sponsored team are selected after 3 rounds of tests which are administered throughout the school year. After the first round, participants are invited to participate in the next two rounds based on their scores from the previous round.

About MOEMS: Created in 1977, the Math Olympiads (MOEMS) officially began in 1979. Last year 150,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads. 49 of the 50 states and approximately 30 other countries were represented. (More at www.moems.org

2011 Summer Camp for Children of Sderot

Summer Camp for zchildren of Sderot in IsraelSummer Camps for the Children of Sderot, organized and sponsored by the Russian Jewish Community of Boston, have become a tradition for many of RSM's graduates.

This year, once again, 50 children from Sderot will go to a camp in Israel - away from Kassams. Their time there will be spent hiking, studying English and math, swimming, and building new friendships. Once again, counselors from our community will volunteer to travel to Israel and work with children, to support our people, and our land.
